Q. We are on a budget but want to make improvements to better our chances of selling. What do you suggest?
A. When it comes to showing your home to potential buyers, first impressions are everything. For this reason, it is in your best interest to spend the time and money to improve the curb appeal of your house.
Begin by painting the entry to your home. Check the walls, door, trim, and gutters for any necessary repairs. Sweep your front entryway; if needed, mop it too. Clean any oil off of your driveway and the street in front of your home. Pull any and all weeds from the front, side, and rear of your home, and use a weed killer to get rid of those pesky weeds in the rocks. Trim your plants; pull out woody, old plants and replace them with new plants that have colorful flowers, like red or orange honeysuckle. If you have grass, seed your lawn twice a year, and be sure to water and mow your grass regularly.
If you have driveway damage from overgrown tree roots, cut the tree roots, or remove the tree and patch and fill your driveway. Driveway paint can solve ugly stains and hide discoloration marks.
If your water system or timer box needs repair, take care of it. If necessary, repair your sprinkler heads. If you decide to replace your sprinkler heads entirely, conceal them and any exposed hoses with fresh, new plants.
